Casting for Kokanee
Caught the Salmon run! Sent an overnight strike mission with @j_henley3 @grantbane to the dream stream. Frigid temperatures lower than 15° killed our plans of night fishing but we rose early and got bit.
We rigged up 3x leader and flouro with indicator (3-4ft up), San Juan worm, salmon egg (hook inch down), and another worm In that order. Thx to @van_the_man_ for hook up.
I have been stoked on Kokanee for the last couple weeks and am fired up the trip was a success. Kokanee salmon are landlocked fish and a very close relative of the sockeye salmon. The only difference is Kokanee salmon do not make the journey to the ocean and back to a river or lake to spawn. Instead, the kokanee spend their whole life in the freshwater system, still migrating upstream every year to spawn. During spawning the salmons jaws extend and hook and they change from silver to black and red.
